That That Don't Kill Me Can Only Make Me Stronger

I drag my butt to the gym every Sunday morning at 8AM to run my first leg of that week's C25K training. Getting there that early allows me enough time to get ready for 10AM mass and enjoy my coffee and breakfast. I'm trying not to push myself too much this week because I've been feeling a bit under the weather since I got back from visiting my mom. This afternoon, I had a bit of a stomach bug, which I'd like to blame my lunch for, but I'm just not sure if I'm not coming down with something more serious. Anyway... did my run early on Sunday morning, went to a graduation brunch thrown by my department, and then met up with my "date" to have a fun afternoon. The plan was to go bowling, which he loves to do, and which I suck at. But I figured, bowling can't be that strenuous. Hahahahaha. Tell that to my very sore right arm. After we had lunch, the bowling alley was filled with 8 year olds at birthday parties, so we decided to go for a walk by the river. Yeah, it wasn't just an afternoon stroll. We walked for seriously 30-45 minutes at a pretty brisk pace. Then, we drove back to the bowling alley, which is where I had left my car parked (he drove to the river), and I was like, well.... I had fun, and he was like, wait! I thought you wanted to go bowling. Oh, okay. So, we bowled three games, and I was pooped! It was a superfun date, and I'm glad to say that we're finally getting comfortable with each other, and I can see that not being at a table at dinner allows our personalities to come out. But geez... I didn't expect to get a crazy workout on my date!

So, wanna know what's on my newly created running playlist? It runs about 40 minutes so I can use it for C25K as well as my 45 minute elliptical routine on my days off. I hope you aren't lactose intolerant, because there is plenty of cheese contained in this list!

I Don't Need A Man by Pussycat Dolls
Hung Up by Madonna
Glamorous by Fergie
Makes Me Wonder by Maroon 5
Stronger by Kanye West
Gimme More by Britney Spears
Paralyzer by Finger Eleven
I Don't Wanna Be in Love by Good Charlotte
Hard to Handle by The Black Crows

All the songs except for the first and last are dance remixes, and so they have a great beat. I'm a little upset that Gimme More doesn't contain the "It's Britney bitch" line, so I say it in my head. Haha. Kayne ROCKS at that midway point in my run. I just sing along in my head "That that don't kill me can only make me stronger" when I'm starting to feel tired or out of breath. Sometimes we just need some motivation, even if it includes such Velveeta as Fergie, PCD, and Britney. And if that's what's going to push me through this week when I'm feeling super beat, then so be it :)

I have been talking about motivation in my blog recently, so totally understand where you're coming from!!

I like your mantra "that that don't kill me..."! I have come up with a new one too - one that I think fits me quite well - "the only way you'll succeed is to keep going!" Which should get me out of bed in the morning!!

I know what you mean about bowling...our office had a bowling outing last year and my throwing arm was really sore the next day!

Glad to hear things are going well with your new man! ; )

I have a new motto that is kind of a mish mash of things different people said (I can't remember anything, so I end up paraphrasing everything anyway):

The hardest part is refusing to say 'It's too hard.'

That's one of the things I think when I'm trying to push through my now 3 big minutes at a time running (woohoo!) and my stop watch is dragging.

I also like this one I made up myself:

'Faster, farther. Stronger, lighter.'

I think it's cool that you found someone who is active. That will make it so much easier to stay on track.

Nice to meet you!

sometimes we need those cheesy songs to push us through, whatever it takes, no shame there :-)
